Visit Green Lanes in North London’s Harringay and you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice with the number of Turkish restaurants and cafes. With so many options, all tempting you in with their window shop displays of salads, rice, stews and meats it’s hard to know where to go. For us, our favourite is Gokyuzu. And a favourite for many others too judging by the queues for takeaway and eat in. There’s lots to choose from, whether it’s soup, salads, hot and cold meze, grilled meat as well as Turkish specialities. I’m a fan of the lamb shish which is skewered, charcoal grilled and comes with rice and salad; The meat is well cooked with a nice smokey flavour and the pilaf rice is always so good. To be honest, I’d happily eat the rice on it’s own. And just proves adding butter and stock makes everything taste a million times better. I love rice. But pilaf rice is another level of love.
