Since it’s Thursday I thought I’d write a Throwback Thursday post about a restaurant I visited whilst on a glamping trip to Devon. This, of course from the title of the post, was River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. Although it’s been over a year since I went I really wanted to write a post about it just because of how much I enjoyed dining here. For those who don’t know, River Cottage Canteen is a restaurant owned by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, celebrity chef and food writer who has a passion for sustainable and seasonal produce. Since we were in the area we decided to have lunch there before heading to our campsite. Walking through the deli and past the deli we were shown to our table in the beautifully bright and airy dining room. We decided to order a seafood platter board and a couple of small dishes to share as well as some dessert. Everything was beautifully presented but the thing that won us over was just how tasty it was! You could tell how fresh the produce was and the way they cooked it made the ingredients sing. We were really impressed, to say the least. In fact, we were so impressed, after our camping trip, we squeezed in a second visit before returning to London. Since the restaurant is focused on seasonal local produce, the menu is always changing. This time we had the vegetarian sharing board, some mussels, fish and chips and seafood stew before rounding the meal off with crumble (again) and jelly and ice cream. Again, it lived up to expectations and we left happy and full. The best start (and end) to our mini break in Devon.
