When I recently flew home, it wasn’t until I had booked my flights I realised I only had two weekends in London which were already blocked to attend two weddings. This meant making the most of weekdays. But with most people having to work, I usually had to go to where they worked and sometimes plans would be delayed / cancelled unexpectedly (damn last minute meetings) so waiting around wasn’t unusual. Not that I minded. I always had my kindle and phone on hand, and usually lined up a few meet ups on the same day (Tube fares are expensive so if I was going to go into Central London I was going to damn well make the most of it). Plus the main thing was to see people. I met one of my friends near Euston where she was working for a lunchtime date. We headed to nearby Murger who serve chinese style burgers and food from the Xian region of China. Of course I had to have the murger – shredded beef in a bun. From the photo it looks pretty dry. And it was. The bread itself was very doughy and dense and the meat was pretty dry. It really needed some kind of sauce or other accompaniments with it. Luckily I also ordered some cold noodles with chilli oil and vegetables which was a lot better. Good chilli flavour, refreshing cold noodles and a nice crunch from the vegetables. My friend had the shredded murger in soup which was exactly what is says on the tin; pieces of bread and meat in soup. Probably the better choice given the dryness of the burger by itself. Disappointed.
