Spruce Goose is a cafe located close to Wellington Airport along Lyall Bay. It’s easy to spot with it’s exterior proudly displaying a large graffiti goose wearing a suit (what else?). One of the perks of being near the airport means you can watch the planes landing and taking off. It is pretty entrancing. To be honest, if you’re nearby it’s hard not to become a plane spotter of sorts. Admittedly I’ve cranked by head to watch the planes fly overhead more than I care to admit (and maybe even taken a couple of photos). On this occasion, despite the typical Wellington weather (ie wind), we decided to sit outside and indulge in a bit of plane spotting with a side of lunch. I ordered a iced chocolate with burger and wedges and Liam had fish and wedges which also came with a dressed salad. We both agreed the wedges were the highlight of the meal. Really good. The burger was also really filling and I ended up leaving a lot of the bread because I was so full. Overall it was a lovely lunch watching the planes land and people walking their dogs along the bay. We even saw a peloton zoom past. Sure we had a bunch of seagulls staring (and squawking) at us while we ate but that’s part of the novelty of being by the beach right?
